Resuscitation Masks
A resuscitation mask — also called a CPR pocket mask — is the safest and most effective tool for delivering rescue breaths during CPR. A pocket mask with a one-way valve protects the rescuer from blood-borne pathogen exposure while delivering effective ventilation. Every lifeguard station, first aid kit, and AED cabinet should have one within immediate reach.
One-Way Valve Protection
Professional-grade CPR masks use a rigid plastic dome with a soft silicone seal and a filtered one-way valve at the mouthpiece. The valve allows exhaled air from the rescuer to pass to the patient while blocking backflow of the patient's exhalations and body fluids. This is the standard of care recommended by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and YMCA lifeguard training curricula.
Aquatic-Specific Features
For in-water rescues, look for resuscitation masks with a hard shell that maintains its shape when gripped with wet hands and a head strap for hands-free positioning during in-water breathing assessment. Aquamentor carries masks suitable for aquatic rescue applications. Most masks are single-use but some professional models support re-use with replacement valves.
Bulk Stocking for Facilities
We recommend one resuscitation mask per guard station plus backup stock in the equipment room. Masks should be inspected at each guard rotation and replaced annually or immediately after use. Email info@aquamentor.com for facility bulk pricing.
