Aquamentor Heavy Resistance Water Dumbbells – Durable Aquatic Fitness Tool
Aquamentor Heavy Resistance Water Dumbbells are the high-buoyancy version of the Aquamentor water dumbbell line — delivering maximum resistance during aquatic fitness exercises by requiring greater muscular effort to submerge, hold underwater, and control through range-of-motion movements. Water dumbbells work on the principle that closed-cell foam wants to float: the harder you push them down, the harder the water pushes back. The heavy resistance version is for experienced aquatic fitness participants and therapeutic programs targeting upper body strength.
Commercial-Grade Aquatic Resistance Equipment
Constructed from high-density closed-cell foam that maintains its buoyancy and shape through years of commercial program use. Ergonomic grip channels fit naturally in the hand for comfortable holds during extended exercise sets. Sold as a pair. The heavy resistance profile is the highest buoyancy level in the Aquamentor dumbbell series — pair with the medium resistance dumbbells to offer progression options in aquatic fitness classes.
How the Resistance Works
Water dumbbells generate resistance through buoyancy, not gravity — they weigh almost nothing in air, but underwater the foam fights hard to float, so the force you feel is the water pushing back. The heavy configuration carries four foam floats per dumbbell (two per end) — double the float volume of the medium model — to deliver the highest resistance in the line through the full range of motion.
Specifications
- Resistance level: Heavy — up to approximately 10 lb of buoyant resistance per dumbbell when fully submerged in fresh water
- Float configuration: 4 high-density foam rounds per dumbbell (2 per end); 8 rounds total per pair, each 5.95" diameter × 2.5" thick
- Handle: 16" PVC bar with ergonomic grip channels
- Out-of-water weight: approximately 0.8 lb each (~1.7 lb per pair)
- Material: 4 lb/ft³ high-density closed-cell EVA foam (chlorine-resistant, non-waterlogging)
- Sold as: Pair of 2
- Use: Aquatic fitness, water aerobics, aquatic physical therapy, advanced upper body training
Resistance figures are calculated from the displaced-water buoyancy of the foam (Archimedes' principle) and represent the approximate maximum force to hold a dumbbell fully submerged; additional drag resistance is generated when moving the dumbbell through the water.
